It all started out as a venture to counter feelings for homesickness for owner Tyler Phan, who opened Saigon's Corner to the Iowa public on June 2018 in its first location in Coralville. The mission was to introduce Iowans to a hot bowl of the hearty Vietnamese soup, known as Pho—using his family's recipe who sold Pho in Saigon for over 35 years.
After overwhelming feedback from locals, Saigon's Corner opened a second location right in the heart of Downtown Iowa City in the Old Capitol Town Center with an expansive menu catered to serve a wide variety of authentic Vietnamese dishes.
Tyler Phan moved to Iowa in 2009 with his wife, who is from the area. He grew up among the restaurant and culinary industry where his uncle—a longtime Pho chef in Vietnam—taught him the tools of the trade along with his family's trade secret for their Pho broth.
